About Proyecto al Sur

Objective: The Fundación Proyecto al Sur is a private, independent, non-profit organization created in 1991 with the purpose of promoting research on the links between psychoanalysis and culture. Since its creation the Fundación has organized and co-organized numerous academic activities in Argentina and abroad.

Fifteen years of the Fundación Proyecto al Sur

"Memory Re/constructions" Conference
The 9th Conference of the Fundacion Proyecto al Sur took place on March 2005 in the Auditorium of the Latin-American Art Museum of Buenos Aires with the subject
"Memory Re/constructions". Some of the participants were: Carlos Bruck, Nicolás Casullo, Ricardo Forster, Rosana Guber, Elizabeth Jelin, Tamara Kamenszain and Mariano Plotkin.
MAL ESTAR
The third issue of the magazine-book MAL ESTAR: psychoanalysis / culture has been published with works about the subject: Repetition, sinister, representation.

The Gathering Cortázar / Grombrowicz: Estrangement and Exile took place on August 2003.
Speakers on this event were: Alicia Borinsky (Boston University), Miguel Grinberg, Ivone Bordelois, Guillermo Piro and the musicianOscar Strasnoy (Composer of "History" based upon text by Witold Gombrowicz).

Mal / Estar.
A public lecture of the 2nd volume of our book-magazine Mal Estar : Psychoanalysis / Culture took place in December 2003, at the National Museum of Fine Arts as an end to the year activities. Carlos Bruck, Carlos Fraiman, Hector Libertella and Fernando Ulloa talked about Mal Estar content.
Époque History

In May and October 2003, with the sponsorship of the Fundacion Proyecto al Sur, two activities organized by Sigma.com took place. In the first one "About genres and representations" intervened the italian psychoanalist Graziela Magherini, Arturo Cuervo, Mario Antmann. In the second panel "The construction of the significant psychoanalysis in Argentina" included the presence of Mariano Plotkin, Carlos Bruck, Sergio Visacovsky, Carlos Fraiman and the coordination of Gabriela Trapero.

Mal Estar: Psychoanalysis / Culture
In November 2002 has been published the 2nd issue of MAL ESTAR, the book-magazine of the Fundacion.
This Volume includes a dossier: "From the golden 60's to the metallic 2000" with articles written by: Horacio Etchegoyen, Nicolás Casullo, Isidoro Vegh, Nicolas Rosa, Judit Filc, German Garcia, Marcelo Pichon Riviere, Miguel Tollo, Rudy, Blas de Santos, Jorge Halperin, Silvia Bleichmar and Mariano Plotkin.
Columns by Jorge Aulicino, Ana Amado, Hector Libertella, Maria Negroni and texts by Ana María Gómez and Jorge Glusberg.

VIII Conferences of the Fundacion: Tying the psychoanalysis
In November 2002, at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.
The Conference theme arises from a freudian proposal to tie again psychoanalysis to a group of doctrines (history, anthropology, humor, narrative, polithology) and so to be able to make new propositions.

First Forum of the Fundacion
In April 2002, took place the first exchange forum, with two thematic axis: a psychoanalysis clinic and a culture clinic.
Both forums registered a very high number of participants from Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, U.S.A, Spain, France, Uruguay and Venezuela.

In association with the University of New York in Argentina, in November 2001, took place the conference: "The psychoanalysis in culture / the culture of psychoanalysis"
A group of analists, authors, critics and artists (Horacio Etchegoyen, Silvia Bleichmar, Nicolás Rosa, Miguel Tollo, Judit Filc, Luisa Valenzuela, Nicolás Casullo, Isidoro Vegh, Norberto Marucco, Leon Rozichner, Marcelo Pichon Riviere, Jorge Halperin, Eduardo Gruner, Rudy, German Garcia) lectured at five different panels.

In December 2001 concluded the first quarter of the Psychoanalysis Postgraduate, organized by Net Schools with the sponsorship of the Fundacion Proyecto al Sur.

In August 2001 the Fundacion Proyecto al Sur and Ediciones Corregidor presented the first volume of: Mal Estar: Psychoanalysis / Culture at the National Museum of Fine Arts. Writers in this issue: Ana Amado, Carlos Bruck, Enrique Carpintero, Marcelo Chirico, Nicolás Casullo, Carlos Chernov, Ernesto Domenech, Alicia Entel, Ana Maria Gomez, Noe Jitrik, Marita Manzotti, Maria Laura Mendez, Oscar Traversa, Isidoro Vegh

Organised by the Fundacion Proyecto al Sur and Topia magazine, on October 1th 2000 started the First Psychoanalysis Virtual Congress: "The Psychoanalysis in spanish from the South of the World". During 20 days an intense activity took place through Internet discussion forums around this axis:
a) Third Millennium: Culture and its Dissatisfactions
b) Third Millennium: Expectations for the psychoanalytical practice
The final part of this event was the celebration of three panels at the National Fine Arts Museum. Two of them included academic and representative institutions of Psychoanalysis in Argentina, and in the final panel lectured, among others, E. Carpintero and C. Bruck, President of the Fundacion and sponsor of the congress.
This event had more than 2.000 subscribers not only from Argentina but from 30 other countries. Eighty works written by invitation or submitted by participants and selected by the Reading Committee were presented.


The Fundacion Proyecto al Sur signed an agreement of exchange and participation with the Faculty of Psychology of the National University of Buenos Aires. Part of this project it was the organisation of panels, seminars and publications that took into account the interests and objectives of each institution. Buenos Aires, March 2000.

The Fundación has just organized a Department of History of Psychoanalysis. Among the foreign members of the Department is Professor Thomas Glick from Boston University who will collaborate with the project.
